Earth Day Every Day: How to Create Eco-Concious Kids

Have you ever noticed how a child in full meltdown mode can suddenly find their calm the moment they step outside? Maybe they spot a bird, feel the wind on their face, or simply begin to run barefoot through the grass. Nature has an incredible way of helping little nervous systems regulate—and science backs that up.

Research shows that children who spend regular time outdoors are happier, healthier, calmer, and more creative. They’re less stressed, more focused, and develop a deeper sense of confidence and responsibility. That’s why one of the most meaningful things we can do as caregivers is to raise kids who feel at home in the natural world.

At Here We Grow, we like to say that Earth Day is everyday. While April 22nd is the official day to celebrate our planet, there are simple ways to honor Mama Earth all year long—and raise eco-conscious, nature-loving kids in the process.

Here are some of our favorite everyday Earth Day ideas:

🌱 Practice the 3 R’s: Teach your child to reduce, reuse, and recycle—through playful conversations and real-life practice.
🪱 Compost together: Even if it’s just a small countertop bin, composting helps children understand where waste goes and what it can become.
🧤 Go on a trash treasure hunt: Gloves on, bags in hand—make a game out of picking up litter in your neighborhood, local park, or playground.
💡 Turn off the lights: Let your child be in charge of making sure lights (and water!) are turned off when not in use.
🌻 Plant something: Whether it’s seeds in a pot or a small veggie patch, nurturing plants helps kids connect to the cycles of life.
🌲 Explore outside often: Take nature walks, splash in creeks, listen to birds, feel tree bark, lie in the grass, follow bugs. The more familiar nature becomes, the more they’ll love and want to protect it.

In my own family, our most joyful and connected times are the ones we spend outside—hiking canyons, swimming in the ocean, digging in the dirt. No screens, no agenda... just us, and the Earth beneath our feet.

We’re also proud that eco-consciousness is at the core of our OoeyGooey Play Party programming. From our materials to our methods, we make it a point to reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible—showing kids that creativity and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.

🎉 Join us this Sunday at Wee Bee Baby Boutique for a special Spring Fling celebration, featuring earth-centered music and sensory play that honors our planet. We can’t wait to see your little ones exploring, creating, and connecting through joyful play.

Let’s raise a generation that not only loves our planet, but knows how to take care of it. Let’s normalize loving Earth not just once a year, but every day.
